Route 66 was a roadway dating back to the early 1920s
The Historic Route 66 is referred to as the "Mother Road" or "Main Street of America"
Route 66 is 2,448 miles long
Route 66 Crosses 8 states and 3 time zones. It runs through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California
Kansas has the shortest stretch of Route 66 which is barely 13 miles long
By 1938 the entire highway was completely paved
Route 66 became popular due to the marketing efforts made by the U.S. 66 Highway Association, which advertised this roadway as the "shortest, best and most scenic route from Chicago through St. Louis to Los Angeles

Route 66 ran through the area we now call St. Robert Missouri to gain access to Fort Leonard Wood Military Post. During that time, a large training camp was created at Fort Leonard Wood just after World War II began. This camp gained so much traffic that businesses began to form along this stretch of highway to accommodate the people traveling
