Honor a Veteran on November 11th for Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day takes place annually on November 11th as a day dedicated to honoring military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. At Fort Wood Hotels, we believe it's incredibly important to honor those who have served our country. If you are looking for a way to honor a Veteran for the upcoming holiday, our hotels in Fort Leonard Wood have a few ideas!
#1 Attend a Local Event on Veteran's Day
A great way to express your appreciation for our Veterans is to attend a Veterans Day event in your local community. If you are in the Fort Leonard Wood Area, the Waynesville-St.Robert Chamber of Commerce is putting on a Veterans Day Ceremony and Parade. All are welcome and encouraged to show support at this event.
November 11th, 2021 11am
The Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. before parade. The Parade will form at the City of St. Robert Municipal Center Parking Lot and will start after the ceremony and will go from the Municipal Center, turn right on Missouri Ave., turn left onto Old Rt. 66, turn around at the Church of God and then end at the St. Robert Community Center. They will also be honoring and recognizing the 2021 Veteran of the Year, Johnnie Bryant.

#2 Make a Donation
If you can't make it to a local event to show you support, making a donation to a program that supports our Veterans is a great way to honor a Veteran on Veterans Day. Consider donating to a local organization in your community. A few of our favorite organizes that support our Veterans in the Fort Leonard Wood community include:- Your Local VFW
- American Legion Post
- Disabled Veterans Organization
- Veterans Cemetery
- USO
- Honor Flight Network
- Fisher House
#3 Fly an American Flag
If you don't already display an American flag on a daily basis at your home or business, consider flying your flag on Veterans Day to show your support. Since Veterans Day is a day of celebration, flags should be displayed at full staff and not half staff.#4 Take Time to Visit a Veteran
There are many Veterans that are too ill to attend a public Veterans Day event. Honor a Veteran by visiting with them. The Missouri Veterans Home is a great place to visit and there is a Veterans Home Program in St. James, Mo which is just right up the road from our family of hotels in St. Robert, Mo.The Missouri Veterans Homes manage a total of 1238 beds that provide long term skilled nursing care in compliance with 157 Federal Department of Veterans Affairs regulations. The Homes are located in Cameron, Cape Girardeau, Mexico, Mount Vernon, St. James, St. Louis, and Warrensburg. Visit their website to learn more about visiting a Veteran or volunteering.
#5 Write to a Veteran
If you know a Veteran, take the time on Veterans Day to reach out to them to recognize them on this important holiday. Write them a postcard, give them a call, or send them a text. If you don't know a Veteran personally, look up the nearest military installation and send a card there. You wouldn't believe the impact a small act of kindness can have a Veteran.#5 Take a Veteran to Lunch, Dinner, or for a Cup of Coffee
If you know a Veteran, invite them out for lunch, dinner, or to grab a cup of coffee. Think about a few questions you could ask them about their time in the service. Being intentional about making them the center of attention for an hour or two could be the highlight of their week.
Honoring those that have served our country is a privilege. Taking the time to honor those who defend our freedoms is important. While honoring those who served in the Armed Forces is important on Veterans Day, don't forget to take time to honor those who served our country throughout the entire year. To all of our Veterans, Fort Wood Hotels would like to express our gratitude and thank each and every one of you for your selfless service for our county.
